My native is Devakottai. Its a Town part of Chettinad. I would like to share about my native here.Nagara Sivan Kovil
Nagarathar Shivan Temple has located at Devakottai of Karaikudi district. The main God of this temple is Lord Shiva known as Sri Sundareswarar and Goddess as Sri Meenakshi. There is a saying that Lord Shiva appeared in this place on Golden horse to bless the devotees.
Navarathiri and Skandha Sashti festivals celebrated in grand manner. This festival time is the best to visit this temple.Kandhar Sashti Vizha is a 10 day festival conducted at the Nagara Sivan Kovil.
Periyapuranam, the great epic written by the poet Sekkizhar to celebrate the lives of Shiva devotees and their unconditional love towards Lord Shiva. A tamil scholar named Vandhondar, a Shiva devotee want to built a temple for poet Sekkizhar, another Shiva devotee.
But due to circumstances it became as Shiva temple. There is a big temple bell called "Sekkizhar Koil mani - Sekkizhar temple bell". A separate shrine also built for Sekkizhar.
I have covered this temple while reciting Sivapuranam, you can watch in below video.
Kanadukathan:
Kanadukathan is another town in Chettinad, In this town we have important landmark which is "Chettinadu Palace". The palace is not open to public as the present generation of the royal families here. This is the great example for Chettinad architecture.Chettinad palace - Kanadukathan
Usually they call Thinnai, Mogappu(Verandahs), Pattalea (living room has very big swing ), Saami veedu (pooja room), Vazhavu [you have Araigall (multiple rooms) for current generation], Mudhal Kattu(Dinning hall), Rendam Kattu, Kitchen, Pin kattu, these are the terms used to differentiate each room.
I need to mention about the swing, that is a great entertainment for kids, especially for me and my cousins during summer holidays in my Aaya veedu. We all sit together and swing by getting tickets from each :)
